(17-06-2011) PROJECT UPDATE - Sports Campus, Wilrijk (B)

17.06.2011 / We present competition design.

Today we present our competition design for a Sports Campus Building situated in the historic fortification of Wilrijk. Due to the vulnerable conditions on site, we propose a building that is sunk in the glacis. The sports halls are entirely open to the historic centre of the cite, reconstructing the parade square. They are spanned by a free bearing vierendeel structure, housing classrooms, common program and outdoor recreational areas. The overall image is one of abstract sturdiness, a reference to the existing military infrastructure.
