(09-10-2015) Independent Art Fair, Brussels (B) - NEW PROJECT

Hub Appointed as Inaugural Edition Architect.

Independent Brussels, the inaugural Belgian edition of Independent, which also organizes two art fairs in New York, has announced the fair dates and an early preview of participating galleries. From the press release:

“Independent Brussels is pleased to announce the fair dates, the appointed architect for the inaugural edition and an early preview of participating galleries. The project will take place from April 20 – 23, 2016 at the Vanderborght Building, a 50,000 square foot building situated in Brussels historical center, close to Central station, La Monnaie/De Munt opera house and Bozar Museum.
The 2016 architectural appointment has been awarded to HUB, Antwerp, who will design the inaugural edition and will follow the format and quality of an exhibition rather than a traditional fair. HUB recently won the open call of the restoration and refurbishment of Antwerp City Hall, is based in Flanders and an active participant in Belgian’s art and cultural life.
As with its New York iterations, Independent Brussels will engage in an invitational program of eminent galleries from various generations and continents, selected by Independent’s founding curatorial advisor Matthew Higgs in collaboration with the creative team. It will follow the format and quality of an exhibition - bringing a coherent and dynamic viewing experience for the visitor, while engaging in a the dialog with the
city of Brussels, as well as its expansive and diverse community of galleries, artists and collectors.“
